Perchè ceci n'est pas un dj

Un disc jockey non è colui che sta dietro due giradischi e un mixer. Un dj diventa tale quando, passando da una canzone all'altra, pone un valore aggiunto alla sua selezione. Un processo, un intervento, una sfumatura, un soffio di fumo aromatizzato che rende quel momento di ascolto unico e irripetibile.

Questo, il principio Magrittesco su cui s basa il progetto Pipesmokers. Il Progetto Pipesmokers nasce nel marzo 2004 a Torino da un bisogno musicale di Luca Ferrero e Alessangro Vigo. In controtendenza con lo stile electro minimal, di grande influenza nella città dove scorre il fiume Po, il loro progetto si propone di portare avanti il Garage & Funk lo stile che aveva portato in casa sotto i riflettori in Italia nella seconda metà degli anni ‚'90. L'insieme di Soul, Funk, Acid & Nu Jazz, Garage, Deep House e un tocco di Bossa definiscono il djset dei Pipesmokers.

Luca Ferrero e Alessandro Vigo, 1985, provengono da Ivrea, a 50 km da Torino. Si incontrano nel 2000 durante la loro ricerca nei negozi di dischi, dove per casualità la loro scelta musicale risulta essere sempre la stessa. Una coincidenza? Destino? Quindici anni e pieni di amore per la House Music: il dj-ing inizia duo. Feste con gli amici, le aperture a DJ, alcuni eventi nella piccola Ivrea, l'arrivo nella grande Torino, un incontro fortunato. Nel marzo 2004, dietro a quattro 1200 MK-2, al Q-ba Cocktail Club del fiume Po a Torino, Pipesmokers progetto Ceci n'est pas un dj è stata ufficialmente fondata. Da allora le stagioni invernali sono a Torino e nei club del Piemonte, l'estate lungo le coste del nord Italia. Nel 2006 esce la loro produzione con l'uscita del loro mix The Way vol.01. Da allora una serie di collaborazioni con musicisti diversi dalla sala di registrazione alla dance floor.

Nel febbraio 2008, Pipesmokers entrano a far parte del Management Playmore DJ Team. Grazie a Playmore, nel mese di agosto 2007, i Pipesmokers sono chiamati a rappresentare il movimento italiano Garage House al Festas do Bodo, in Pombal (Portogallo). Durante l'evento, hanno con star internationali come Bob Sinclar, Claude Monnet, Rachel Claudio & Nicolas Vautiers, Na'Sayah & Amnaye, Soulful Jo√£o e Dj Celine.

Nel settembre 2008 Pipesmokers iniziano la collaborazione con Alex Dimitri “South Soul” per il suo progetto South Soul. Nel Maggio 2009, mentre Alessandro porta il progetto “Pipes” a Pechino per la loro prima performance asiatica, Luca porta a termine la laurea in Digital Music Production alla SAE International Institute di Milano.

Il 25 luglio 2009 Alessandro e Luca festeggiano i cinque anni di attività con ospiti Alex Dimitri e Soulful Jo√£o. In settembre Alex Paoloni sceglie i PIPES per SOUL'ARE Back to the House Roots, il nuovo programma ad ispirazione Soul/Funk di Radio Partygroove. (http://www.partygroove.it). I PIPESMOKERS entrano ad ottobre 2009 nel roster di Flora (Torino) e G Lounge (Milano), salotti musicali delle rispettive città che li vedono al fianco di personaggi come Harley & Muscles.

Why ceci n'est pas un dj

A disc jockey is not a disc jockey for standing behind two turntables and a mixer. A dj becomes such when, as well as going from one song to another, gives an added value to his selection. A re-processing, an intervention, a nuance, a breath of aromatized smoke, that extra that makes that listening moment unique and unrepeatable.

This, the Magrittesque principle on which the dj-ing project PIPESMOKERS is based.
The PIPESMOKERS Project was born in March 2004 in Turin from a musical need of Luca Ferrero and Alessangro Vigo. In countertrend with the electro minimal style that is of major influence to the city and the Po’s riverside clubs, their project proposes to carry ahead the Garag & Funk style that had brought House into the spotlight in Italy in the second half of the 90’s. Soul, Funk, Acid & Nu Jazz, Garage, Deep House and a touch of Bossa are all defining in a PIPESMOKERS’ dj set.

Luca Ferrero and Alessandro Vigo, 1985, come from Ivrea, 50 km from Turin. They meet in 2000 browsing through records in the town’s music stores. Every Saturday their choice of records is the same; a coincidence? fate? Fifteen years old and heaps of love for House Music: the dj-ing twosome starts. Parties with friends, openings for old djs, some events in the small Ivrea, the arrival in the big Turin, a fortunate encounter. In march 2004, behind four 1200 mk-2, at the Q-ba Cocktail Club riverside the Po in Turin, project PIPESMOKERS Ceci n’est pas un dj is officially founded. Since then it’s been winter seasons in Turin and Piedmont’s clubs, summers along northern Italy’s coastlines and One Nights. In 2006 they approach production with the release of their mix The Way vol.01. Since then a series of collaborations with diverse musicians from the recording room to the dance floor. The excellent feed back on the dance floor pushes PIPES to amplify, fully including the live factor.

In february 2008, PIPESMOKERS become part of Playmore Managment DJ Team.
Thanks to Playmore, in August 2007, SMOKERS hav been called to rappresent the italian Garage House movement at the Festas do Bodo, in Pombal (Portugal). During the event, they played back to back with International superstas dj such as Bob Sinclar, Claude Monnet, Rachel Claudio & Nicolas Vautiers, Na'Sayah & Amnaye, Soulful João, Dj Cèline, etc.

In September 2008 PIPESMOKERS started the collaboration with Alex Dimitri "South Soul" for his label South Soul Rec.
In May 2009, while Alessandro brings SMOKERS project in Beijing for their first Asian performance, Luca achieves the degree in Digital Music Production at SAE International Institute of Milan.
